Why this Hypnotic State, di?

If something or someone does manage to occupy your thoughts, the morning after, then it must have been good. I recently watched a movie called Mayakkam Enna, where the protogonist ( played by Dhanush) is a wildlife photographer, immensely passionate about his work, but is taken for a ride. He loves, he hurts, he regrets, he repents and he is incapable. People cannot understand him and he does not realise that.  His angst, passion and rage at his inability to succeed takes a turn when he falls for his best friends girlfriend. A girl who understands his frustrations and is there for him through thick and thin, until the very end.

The movie is highly performance driven, with the protogonists occupying much of screen time and doing justice to every minute of it. Though there are gaping anachronistic holes, I am sure most people would not notice it or at least tuck it under the pillow, while gushing over the performances. I thought the background music and the cinematography were strong supporting pillars for the motion picture.

The movie was layered in that  the story was not linear and during the course of the narrative, is peeled to reveal different aspects. For example, the movie starts out as Karthik, the photographer lamenting about his life and the new woman who comes into it, eventually we come to relate to the story from the girls perspective, and then you start understanding Karthik's relationships with his friends and then, towards the end, there is a study of the relationship between the siblings.
On the contrary, the ending was quite abrupt,as  there was a lot invested in studying and analysing Karthik's misery and then suddenly, he is a world famous photographer and all ended well. I thought it sort of made the whole struggle of the protogonist's wife sort of insipid.

What I find exciting is the fact that the story is quite true to life. These are some of the people you might meet in daily life. Flawed, emotional, bitter, concerned, opportunistic individuals who could be be crossing your path on a daily basis. This movie unravels like a book and actually makes you relate to the character in every possible way. The hero is the asshole and he does realise it towards the end, but that does not elevate immediately to the “ I think I am a much better man and you have to love me now” status.

These Photographs

Dear friend S made up for a dreary evening last night with her cheerful disposition, optimism and enthusiasm in embracing new beginnings by diving right into the thick of action.

You never know where life will take you ( a lot of times), but you have your anchors. The inner circle of people who are totally game for counselling sessions, drinking binges, impromptu road trips, hazy philosophising, reality checks and being asswipes in general. Life gets even better if they end up being where you are, or vice versa. Sadly, when all things mostly good and occasionally bad come to an end, the material and virtual memories are what serve as remainders of the better times we have had. The people who matter are the ones you want to see all the time.

Quote, unquote, these pictures bridge that gap and keep us closer, however cliché it is:). Very aptly put. Well said S.

P.S: This post was hastily written on a peaceful ride to Longwood and enthusiastically transcribed to cyberspace before one could say internet.

P.P.S: I did not know quote unquote and quote, unquote conveyed different meanings until 10 minutes ago.

Ghosts!

There are ghosts. Everywhere. Your own personal ones. Ghosts of your actions. They will haunt you for the rest of your life-no matter how you change, for the better or for the worse. these ghosts are the albatrosses around your neck.

I am throwing it out in the open that I have not been the most sensible of persons. I have made mistakes and I have learnt to be better the hard way. I believe I am doing a good job. Please believe and do not ruin it.

Driven!!

What drives you?

I have woken up a lot of mornings with this persistence in my head, spent hours trying to find the easy way out, but of no avail. For a period of time, there were only questions, no answers. When I get up tomorrow, the familiar feeling will be back, but I hope to salvage some pride.

The ball is in your court. Tell me what drives you.

Man in the Mirror

A whole year and a rollercoaster ride later, What does the man in the mirror have to say?

He

believes in reduced procrastination.

realised that theres no shortcuts to or compromises for good health-both the physical and mental kind.

says that your actions overshadow your words and identify you, and has been working hard to live upto it.

keeps looking out for the good stuff-theres a whole world out there.

and

needs to think before acting, reacting or talking.

has to work hard towards making and maintaining relations.

Make up for the headaches, irritation and hurt he's responsible for.

Strike a more definitive balance between priorities, more priorites and all the other nonsense.

He smiles. Its doable I suppose. He smiles again. A little bit of work.

I smile.
